김상태 교수는 서울대학교 생물학과를 졸업하고, 숲과 들을 지키는 식물의 변이와 분류에 관심이 있어 동 대학에서 식물분류학으로 석사학위를 취득하고, 미국 예일대학교로 유학하여 식물 분류군의 진화 계통 및 배수화가 종분화 및 종 다양성에 미치는 역할을 연구하여 박사학위를 취득하였다. 이후 독일의 막스플랑크 연구소에서 박사후 연구원으로 차세대 염기서열 기법을 통한 유전체학 연구 및 식물 종들의 자연 변이를 통한 적응과 진화를 연구하였다. 그리고 국내로 복귀하여 기초과학연구원 유전체교정 연구단에서 연구위원으로, 인간과 동물, 식물을 포함하는 다양한 생물체에서 크리스퍼를 이용한 유전체 교정 연구를 새롭게 경험하고, 2020년 가톨릭대학교로 임용되어 현재는 ‘식물 진화 및 유전체학’ 연구실을 마련하여 다양한 생물종의 전장유전체-유전자형을 생산하고 집단유전학적 연구를 통해 생물 집단의 유전 다양성 및 진화적 역사를 탐구하고 있으며, 크리스퍼 매개 유전체 교정 기법을 이용하여 자연 변이 유래 적응 형질을 연구하고 이들 형질의 기능적 역할과 미래 쓰임새에 관해 연구하고 있다. 다양한 변이와 다름이 있는 생태계의 생물들이 어떻게 조화를 이루어 평형을 이루고 있을까? 자연계의 변이와 평형에 대한 이해, 더 나아가 지구의 미래 지속성과 인간의 더 나은 삶을 만들 수 있는 여러 주제를 함께 공부하고 교육하고 토론하고자 한다.

What makes nature stable even with such unpredictable variations? This question has led my scientific career and will be the main motivation for my future teaching and research.  My road to understanding natural variation and the ecological coexistence of diverse living things has been initially filled with plant systematics and phylogenetics for my doctoral research on the diversification and the role of hybrid speciation at Yale University.  My post-doctoral research at the Max-Planck Institute in Tuebingen, Germany has broadened my road with a new insight into evolutionary genomics.  I performed a large-scale survey of local field populations using modern genomics technology. I dealt with big sequencing data using my bioinformatics skills to look for a signature of selection and evolutionary footprints relating to local adaptation in model plants and relatives. I continued to broaden my research area with genome editing techniques (the CRISPR/Cas9 system) and led the bioinformatics group at the Institute for Basic Science. I started my lab (Plant Evolution and Genomics Lab: PEGL) at the Catholic University of Korea in 2020. I have actively extended our understanding of trait evolution and local adaptation with CRISPR systems in plants, which can develop new traits for crop improvement. My lab is also working on population genetic studies of various plant populations. 

가톨릭대 행정학과 조교수로 재직하면서 지방재정, 재무행정, 재정정책 등의 분야를 연구하고 있다. 
고려대학교에서 경영학 학사 학위를 취득하였고 일리노이 대학교(University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)에서 재무학 석사, 조지아 주립대(Georgia State University)에서 부동산학 석사 학위를 취득하였다. 
미시시피 주립대학교(Mississippi State University)에서 행정학 박사를 취득한 이후 지방행정연구원에서 근무하였고 가톨릭대학교 행정학과에서 연구활동을 이어오고 있다.

I am an assistant professor of the department of public administration at the Catholic University of Korea. I earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration at Korea University, a master degree of Finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and another master degree in Real Estate at Georgia State University. My Ph.D. degree in Public Administration was received from Mississippi State University. I have worked for Shinhan Bank as a financial analyst and served as an associate research fellow for Local Finance and Economy Office of Korea Research Institute for Local Administration(KRILA).     

서울대학교에서 경영학 학사(1992년), 석사(1994년), 박사(2000년) 학위를 취득하였다. 정보통신 분야 정부 출연 연구기관인 한국전자통신연구원(ETRI)과 정보통신정책연구원(KISDI)에서 정책 및 전략 연구를 7년 간 수행한 경력이 있다. 2014년에는 Florida State University에서 Visiting Scholar로 활동하였다. 주요 연구 분야는 서비스 마케팅, 하이테크 마케팅, 사회적 기업 등이며, 연구 성과는 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SPORTS MARKETING & SPONSORSHIP, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ELECTRONIC COMMERCE, ACADEMY OF MARKETING STUDIES JOURNAL 등의 학술지에 게재되었다.

He received his BA (1992), MA (1994), and PhD (2000) degrees in Business Administration from Seoul National University. He has seven years of experience conducting policy and strategy research at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI). In 2014, he stayed at Florida State University as a Visiting Scholar. His main research areas include service marketing, high-tech marketing, and social enterprise, and his research results have been published in academic journals such as INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SPORTS MARKETING & SPONSORSHIP, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ELECTRONIC COMMERCE, and ACADEMY OF MARKETING STUDIES JOURNAL.
