세포의 환경스트레스 대응시스템에 대한 기초연구를 통해 암을 포함하는 다양한 질환의 병리를 이해하고 그 제어 방안 개발을 연구함. 서울대학교 약학대학 학사학위 수여 후 동 대학원 약학과에서 약물학 전공 박사학위를 취득하였음. 미국 Johns Hopkins 대학에서 박사후연구원-Research Scientist로 연구 활동 후 2004년부터 영남대학교 약학대학에서 부교수, 2011년부터 가톨릭대학교 약학대학에서 교수로 재직하며 분자약물학 연구실을 운영함. 다수의 국가연구개발 과제를 수행하며 주저자 SCI(E)논문 80편 이상을 발표하였으며, 다수의 학회 단체에서 위원장과 위원직을 수행하고 한국연구재단 의약학단 전문위원, 국가신약개발사업단 전문위원 등 활발한 대외활동을 수행한 바 있음.
