사회과학대학 사회복지학과 조교수로 국가간 비교 관점에서 세대간 사회이동성과 복지국가의 관계를 검토하고, 연구와 정책을 연결하는 문제를 주로 연구하고 있다. 연구의 목표는 한 세대에서 다음 세대로 경제적 이득/불이득이 어떻게 전승되는지에 대한 핵심 메커니즘을 이해하고, 이를 통해 시장경제를 가진 현대 민주주의 국가에서 시민들의 상향적 사회이동성을 개선하기 위한 정책 대안을 찾는 것이다. 현재 연구 프로젝트는 2019년 국제 사회조사 프로그램의 사회 불평등 모듈 V 자료를 활용한 세대간 계급 이동성과 사회경제적 불평등의 관계에 대한 국가간 비교 연구이다. 서울대학교 사회복지학과에서 학사(2005년)와 석사(2007년) 학위를, 미 워싱턴대학교(시애틀) 사회복지대학원에서 박사학위(2019년)를 받았다. 학부에서 사회복지역사(미국사회복지의 역사적 형성과정과 그 정책적/실천적 함의), 한국사회복지론, 사회복지정책, 사회복지연구방법론, 일반대학원에서 사회복지정책세미나(사회이동성과 사회복지정책), 사회복지패널연구세미나II(회귀분석, 단순/고급패널자료분석), 사회복지자료분석론I(구조방정식모형, 다층모형), 특수대학원에서 사회복지역사 수업을 담당하고 있다.

Assistant Professor Chiho Song’s research focuses on examining a relationship between intergenerational social mobility and the welfare state in an international comparative perspective with a focus on linking research to policy. Dr. Song’s research aims to understand the key mechanisms through which economic advantages or impediments can be transferred from one generation to the next, thereby suggesting policy alternatives to improve upward mobility for the citizenry in modern democracies with market economies. His current research project focuses on cross-national comparisons of the associations between intergenerational class mobility and socioeconomic inequality using data from Social Inequality Module V in the 2019 International Social Survey Program. Dr. Song holds a BA (2005) and a MA (2007) in Social Welfare from Seoul National University, and a Ph.D. (2019) from the University of Washington, School of Social Work (UW SSW). Dr. Song teaches courses on social welfare history, social welfare in Korea, social welfare policy, and research methods for social welfare at the undergraduate level. He offers courses on the seminar in social welfare policy (focusing on social mobility and social welfare policy), the advanced seminar in social welfare panel studies II, advanced social welfare data analysis I, and social welfare history at the graduate level.
