주요 연구 분야는 동아시아 유학 사상, 한국 사상이며, 서양 학문과 만난 조선 후기 유학의 성격, 근현대 한국 사상의 맥과 흐름을 연구하고 있다. 현재 가톨릭대학교 철학과의 교수로 재직하며 연구와 강의 중이다. 2007년 2월, 연세대학교 철학과에서  <정약용 철학의 형성과 전개: 주자학과 서학에 대한 비판적 수용 과정을 중심으로>라는 글로 박사학위를 받았다.  <정약용의 철학>(이학사, 2007), <강의실에 찾아온 유학자들>(사계절, 2007), <정약용의 정치사상>(2025, 이학사) 등의 저서가 있고, <세계적 K사상을  향하여>(2024, 창비), <문명전환의 한국사상>(창비, 2024) 등의 공저서가 있다.  

BAEK Minjung (mjbaek@catholic.ac.kr) is currently a professor of the Department of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Korea. Her research focuses on the Confucian thought during the Joseon Korea. She seeks to broadly research the traditional Korean Confucian thought with the East Asian horizon and is interested in the modern reinterpretation of Confucianism during the Joseon Korea from philosophical context of today. Currently, she is working on the theory of the mind, ethics, and political philosophy of the Confucian scholars during the late Joseon.

1970~80년대 한국 역사극 연구로 박사학위를 받았으며, 현재는 한국 현대 희곡과 TV·OTT 드라마의 서사 분석 및 사회·문화적 의미 등을 탐구하는 데 주력하고 있다. 한국극예술학회와 한국드라마학회 연구이사로 활동하는 한편, 텔레비전드라마연구회 소속으로 역사, 판타지, 권력, 폭력 등을 주제로 한 공동 세미나에 참여해 왔다. 이러한 경험들을 바탕으로 다양한 비평 활동을 이어가며, 연구 성과를 정리한 저서도 꾸준히 출간하고 있다.

모두가 평등하게 살아갈 수 있는 세상을 향한 지렛대로서 사회정책을 탐구해왔다. 2005년 서울대학교에서 '복지체제와 생산체제의 제도적 상보성'으로 사회복지박사학위를 취득하였다. 주요 연구분야는 불안정 노동, 기본소득, 플랫폼 자본주의와 복지국가 비교 영역이다. 노동시장의 변화로 사회보험 중심 전통적 복지국가의 제도적 정합성이 약화되고 있는 상황에서, 불안정 노동 문제를 해결하고, 공유부 배당 기본소득이 있는 정의로운 복지국가로 전통적 복지국가를 재구성하는 것에 관심을 가지고 연구하고 있다.  

I have pursued the study of social policy as a lever for realizing a more egalitarian society. In 2005, I was awarded a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Seoul National University, with a dissertation entitled Institutional Complementarities between Welfare and Production Regimes. My primary fields of research encompass precarious work, universal basic income, and comparative analyses of welfare states within the context of platform capitalism. Against the backdrop of profound transformations in labor markets that have eroded the institutional coherence of the traditional social insurance–based welfare state, my scholarship is directed toward addressing the challenges posed by precarious work and exploring the realization of a welfare state anchored in distributive justice and sustained by a universal basic income drawn from common-wealth dividends.

핵자기공명(NMR)을 이용하여 물질의 자기적 특성을 주로 연구하고 있다.

본인은 2008년 펜실베니아 주립대(PSU)에서 천연물 전합성 연구로 박사 학위를 받았고, KIST(1995~2002)와 Scripps연구소(2008~2011)에서 의약화학 및 천연물 전합성 연구를 10년 이상 진행한 바 있다. 2011년 가톨릭대에 임용된 이후에는 팔라듐 촉매를 이용한 신규 합성 방법 개발 연구를 주로 하고 있다. 특히 초기 신약개발 단계에서 필요한 다양한 저분자 물질 확보에 유용한 다양성 지향 합성 개념에 충실하도록 다단계 반응을 묶어서 한번의 반응으로 가능하게 하는 직렬 반응 연구에 중점을 두고 있다. 개발된 합성 방법을 활용하여 확보된 헤테로 고리 화합물들은 실제 생리활성 시험을 통해 SERM, IL6 활성 저해 후보 물질로 의약화학적 후속 연구를 진행하고 있으며, 직렬 반응을 이용한 효율적 천연물 전합성 연구도 함께 진행하고 있다. 

In 2008, I received Ph. D. degree from Pennsylvania State University (PSU) with research about total synthesis of natural product. Also I have worked several institutes, such as KIST (Korea Institute of Science & Technology: 1995~2002) and TSRI (The Scripps Research Institute: 2008~2011), where I performed research related with various new drug development projects and total synthesis of complex natural products. Since starting independent research career at The Catholic University of Korea (CUK) in 2011, I have mainly focused on the research of novel synthetic method development utilizing palladium-catalyzed reaction. Especially, I interested in tandem and/or one-pot reactions, which converts multi-step reactions into a single reaction. These types of reactions have the advantage of facilitating the approach to various heterocyclic compounds, which is needed for early stage of new drug development research. The compounds obtained from methodolgy research have been tested for biological activities and utilized in subsequent medicinal chemistry research, such as for SERMs and IL6 inhibitors. Total synthesis of natural products has also been studied and recently finished synthesis of cyclopiamide A.
